annual fundraiser to get renewed emphasis this year; Monthly Newsletter of Projects Published

The goal this year is to raise $7500 by October. For more information on Pounds and Talents and the Lord's Acre, click here.
Church Library Undergoes Major Reorganization
Over 230 new books and dvd's added in past few months
The Church libraries have undergone a major reorganization in the past two months to make room for a number of new commentary sets and other individual volumes. Most of the Time-Life series were moved to the overflow room to make room for the new Biblical materials.
The purpose of this was to make the library easier to access and to increase the number of basic Bible commentaries and Biblical and theological information so that anyone who wanted to research a topic in more depth could do so easily, whether they were life-long Bible students or new to the faith.
Among the commentary sets recently added were The Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds, both New and Old Testaments; The Holman Old and New Testament Commentary set; The Beacon Bible Commentary on the Old and New Testaments; The Life Application New Testament Bible Commentary; The Tyndale Old and New Testament Commentaries; Warren Wiersbe's "Be" series on the Old and New Testaments; The Expositor's Bible Commentary on the Old and New Testaments; and various volumes from the Mastering the Old and New Testament commentary series and the Storyteller's Guide to the Bible.
There were also a number of other individual books added to the library and there have been books on Easter, Christopher Columbus, and a series of books on how to respond to your parents and about talking to God added to the children's library.
There have also been twenty-nine dvds of family appropriate movies added to the audio-visual section of the library that are being kept in the children's library.
The only major part of the reorganization that remains to be done is the relabeling of some of the books and the updating of the card catalog to reflect a new and simplified Dewey Decimal system now being used.
For pictures and all the latest library listings and map of the shelves, click here.
Sermon-Time Nursery Being Used
The nursery has been successfully moved upstairs and is now being used during the worship service. Before the sermon each week, two volunteers will take any babies or children up to the age of 4 years to the nursery if their parents desire and will keep them occupied so that the parents can concentrate on the sermon. They are then brought back to the sanctuary in time for either the monthly Communion Service or the closing hymn.
As soon as the sound technician is back from his honeymoon he is planning on hooking up a speaker to the nursery so that the nursery workers will be able to hear the sermon.

Lord's Acre Has Another Successful Year!
The 2009 Lord's Acre was another great success. There was some concern when the usually pleasant fall weather dropped into the low 50's and 40's and a light rain fell off and on during the day. The Country Market had to be moved inside and people didn't spend as much time as usual looking at the auction items. Despite the cold weather, people still lined up for the buffet supper and even stood in line outside. The auction was as exciting and fun as ever and there were several first-time visitors who promised to return next year. We even had coverage of the event in The Call Magazine from the Holston Conference!
